STR expands ROV fleet with Saab Seaeye Falcon

Subsea Technology & Rentals Ltd (STR) has added an additional Saab Seaeye Falcon robotic vehicle to its global rental fleet of inspection class vehicles.

Saab said on Wednesday that STR, which specialises in the design and manufacture of advanced subsea technology for the offshore energy industry, had a planned investment for more Falcons in the near future.

According to the company, growing demand over the last 12 months for the Falcon from clients in the oil and gas and renewables sectors led STR to expand its fleet, as the company’s existing Falcons are currently on long-term rental.

STR’s managing director, Scott Johnstone, said: “STR firmly believe that the investment of the new Saab Seaeye Falcon remotely operated vehicle system demonstrates our commitment to our clients and to improving market conditions.”

The Falcon has five powerful thrusters and a distributed control system arranged in a small, easily manhandled meter-long versatile chassis. Saab said that its power and control make it highly maneuverable and able to remain stable in strong crosscurrents while undertaking precision tasks.
