Strike Cripples Buenaventura Port

Cabotage shipowners staged a 10-hour blockade of the El Pinal bridge yesterday morning, the only link connecting the Port of Buenaventura with Colombia’s mainland, GAC reports.

The strike started in protest at the Colombian government’s non-fulfillment of promises regarding fuel subsidies.

The blockage of the El Pinal Bridge caused delays on the transportation of goods to and from Buenaventura, as well as delays in the operation of vessels.

Colombian El Pais reports that the cabotage shipowners ended the strike after national government agreed to revise the current subsidies for diesel fuel.
