Strike Delays Piraeus Bunker Supplies

Business & Finance

The strike of Hellenic Petroleum’s workers has caused loading delays in bunker supplies in Piraeus, Greece’s leading bunker port, Platts reports.

The workers of Greece’s biggest oil refiner launched the strike earlier this week after six company workers sustained injuries in a fire at the Aspropyrgos refinery on Friday.

The fire broke out during maintenance work at a unit that had been shut for maintenance since April 20, causing serious injuries to three workers with two more reported to be in intensive care.

“It has been difficult. Hellenic (workers) were on strike for three days so we have some loading delays. We’re extremely tight on product,”  a Piraeus trader told Platts on Tuesday, adding that they were tight on the product and that the strike is affecting loadings.

The delays are expected to continue in the following couple of days.
