Survitec to overhaul Alwyn North lifeboats for Total

Safety solutions provider Survitec has secured a new contract with Total E&P UK for the upgrade of 12 lifeboats on the Alwyn North platform in the UK North Sea. 

Survitec said on Monday that the contract included full lifeboat overhauls and upgrades as well as the replacement of release hook system with Survitec’s Safelaunch lifeboat release and retrieval system (LRRS).

The company added it would also manage all onshore and offshore logistics, including the transfer of lifeboats to and from the asset.

According to Survitec, its bid was comprehensive in highlighting and analyzing risk aversion factors which provide the necessary assurances that the project would be delivered by July 1, 2019.

Kevin Laing, head of energy at Survitec, said: “It is a project that will require acute planning and execution, but this is something we are well versed in. Our tender bid highlighted the various risk aversion factors involved and demonstrated our commitment to providing compliant and industry-leading solutions tailored to the requirements of our client.”

The Alwyn field, which lies 440 kilometers north-east of Aberdeen, was brought on-stream in November 1987. Two field complexes have been recognized; the Alwyn North Field in block 3/9 and the Alwyn South Field in block 3/14.

Alwyn North is one of the largest oil and gas processing platforms in the UK North Sea acting as a gathering hub for nearby fields.
