Svenska hires Exceed for Guinea Bissau’s first deepwater well
Swedish oil company Svenska Petroleum is getting ready to spud Guinea Bissau’s first ever deepwater offshore well. To support the drilling operation, the company has hired Aberdeen-based well management company Exceed.

Exceed said on Wednesday this would be the company’s first contract offshore Guinea Bissau.
“Exceed’s workscope will include all front end engineering planning, service procurement support, logistical set-up, HSE management (including systems permitting) and operational execution of the well,” Exceed said of its 12-month, $4 million, contract.
Exceed has previously assisted Svenska with its first well project offshore The Gambia. Apart from the Svenska deal, Exceed said it was at the final negotiation stage on additional exploration well projects for other clients in the region.
Offshore Energy Today has reached out to Exceed, seeking more info on the drilling date, and on the rig to be used for the operation. An Exceed spokesperson confirmed the spud date would be in late Q4 2019, without going into rig specifics.
While Svenska’s website has not been updated with new information since 2017, a recent presentation by Australian oil company Far, Svenska’s partner in Guinea Bissau, shows Svenska operates three offshore blocks there, with total prospective resources estimated at 954 million barrels of oil equivalent.
The joint venture was in 2017 awarded a three-year extension to the license periods over Guinea Bissau acreage, now ending on November 25, 2020.
In its presentation, this month, Far said that the acreage contained the Atum prospect, which was an SNE look-a-like. To remind, SNE, located offshore Senegal, was the world’s largest oil discovery in 2014 and is now on track for first oil in 2022.
