Swan Hunter Dives Into Offshore Wind Sector

The former Tyneside shipbuilding and engineering company, Swan Hunter, has informed that it moved into the offshore energy sector and is now providing equipment necessary for subsea operations in both oil and gas and renewable energy sectors.

The offshore equipment is specially built for the installation of power cables, umbilicals, and flexible pipelines, and includes carousels, reel drive systems and tensioners.

According to Swan Hunter’s website, the company has been already engaged in an offshore wind project.

Namely, Swan Hunter is currently working on a Belgian offshore wind farm located approximately 34km off Zeebrugge, which will have an installed capacity of 309MW, and is to be installed in Q3 2017.

The company did not disclose the name of the wind farm. However, the project’s capacity, location, and construction timeline suggest that the project in question is the Rentel offshore wind farm.
