Ternsund Cools Down After Maiden Voyage

Swedish tanker owner Terntank held a celebration and welcome ceremony for its first 15,000 dwt chemical tanker with dual-fuel two-stroke engine, M/T Ternsund, on August 8, at the Port of Rotterdam.

The LNG-propelled product tanker’s maiden voyage started on June 28 when the vessel left the Avic Dingheng shipyard in China. Ternsund sailed to Singapore to load cargo destined for Europe. After reaching Europe, the tanker discharged in Malta and in Rotterdam.

After completion of discharging of cargo, the M/V Ternsund shifted to another jetty to cool down its LNG bunker tanks to -160 degrees Celsius.

Rotterdam is one of the stops on Ternsund’s voyage to Sweden, where the vessel’s main task will be to distribute refined oil products from NEOT’s refinery in Gothenburg.

The Ternsund is the first of four dual-fuel product tankers that Terntank ordered from AVIC Dingheng Shipbuilding.

The second tanker from the same series, the Ternfjord, is slated for delivery this month, and the remaining two newbuilds will be delivered at the end of 2016 and beginning of 2017, respectively.
