The Netherlands: Dockwise Places Order for Amarcon’s OCTOPUS-Onboard

Dockwise Places Order for Amarcon's OCTOPUS-Onboard

Amarcon wins another OCTOPUS-Onboard installation contract for a vessel operated by the Dutch heavy cargo transporter Dockwise. In December 2011 Dockwise announced to act as manager of the Chinese Offshore Oil Engineering Co. Ltd (COOEC’s) semi submersible HYSY 278 new build 50000 DWT vessel for all third party projects.

The HYSY 278 shall be equipped with OCTOPUS-Onboard for the purpose of motion monitoring, response prediction and heavy-weather decision support during heavy cargo transportations. This recent appointment is the sixteenth order from Dockwise for an OCTOPUS-Onboard installation. The first installation was executed six years ago on the semi-submersible heavy transport carrier Transshelf. From that day on Dockwise and Amarcon continued working together. In 2011 the completion of OCTOPUS-Onboard installations on all fifteen Dockwise vessels was celebrated by Amarcon and Dockwise.

OCTOPUS-Onboard enables the master to make sensible decisions with regards to the most economical and safe route, preventing damage to the vessel and her precious cargo. In addition to the onboard decision support, the HYSY 278 shall be equipped with a motion measurement system based on three motion sensors. This enables real-time measurement and display of motions in multiple critical locations of the vessel. Via OCTOPUS-Online, all the collected data (measured and forecasted motions) of the vessel are made accessible on the internet. This enables the onshore Operations Department to monitor the status and location of her fleet, every day, hour and minute of the week.
