The Switch PM shaft generator ordered for Saga LNG Shipping newbuild

Helsinki-based, marine drive train technology specialist, The Switch, on Thursday informed it has received an order for its permanent magnet shaft generator for a 45,000 cbm LNG carrier being built for Saga LNG Shipping.

The order is a part of WE Tech Solution’s “energy efficiency system” being delivered to the Singapore-based LNG player backed by Landmark Capital, The Switch said in a statement.

The order includes an option for one more PM shaft generator that can operate over the full main engine speed range while generating electricity for the vessel’s electrical network, Yaskawa Electric Corp. owned The Switch said, adding that deliveries are set to begin in October 2016.

The 45,000 cbm LNG carrier will be built at China Merchants Heavy Industry’s Haimen based shipyard in China’s Eastern Jiangsu province.

The vessel, that will feature Wärtsilä’s dual-fuel main propulsion system is scheduled for delivery in 2018.
