Tidal Lagoon Power Appoints New Construction Director

Former CEO of Laing O’Rourke Australia, Steve Hollingshead has joined Tidal Lagoon Power as Construction Director with Electro-Mechanical and Power-Systems Engineer Peter Wright joining as Senior Electrical Engineer.

With over 35 years of experience of delivering major global infrastructure projects, Steve began his career with Taylor Woodrow Construction. He joined R.O’Rourke & Son Ltd in 1989 and became Construction Director in 1991.

Steve played a key role in O’Rourke Group’s acquisition of Laing Construction in October 2001 before being appointed as Managing Director of Laing O’Rourke London and South East. In 2010 he moved to Brisbane as CEO of the Australia Hub to lead the turnaround and growth of a business that now generates $3bn annual revenue and employs 7,000 people.

As Construction Director with Tidal Lagoon Power, Steve will have responsibility for the delivery of Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon.

With significant experience in electro/mechanical system design, construction, plant commissioning and electrical generation, Peter Wright will take a lead role as Senior Electrical Engineer with responsibility for major elements of mechanical and electrical specifications, tenders, costing, pricing and O&M strategies.

Having begun his career with the CEGB, Berkeley, (Magnox-Nuclear) in 1966, Peter has worked on global energy projects with Alstom Grid, (UK National Grid Alliance substation upgrades), Alstom Hydro, (Merowe Hydro Power Plant-Sudan,1200MW) and Parsons Brinckerhoff, (Kogan Creek Power Station Australia. 750MW) He was also a member of SMEC International’s team responsible for the design, construction, installation and commissioning of hydro power plants in Vietnam and Australia.
