1. Alstom Shows Tidal Stream Power Generation (VIDEO)

Alstom, a world leader in transport infrastructure, power generation and electrical grid, shows tidal stream power animation. Tidal power is a major growth area, with a potential global electricity generation estimated up to 100 gigawatts.

2. UK: Harkand Invests in Expansion of ROV Fleet

Harkand is investing upwards of $30million (USD) in expanding its global fleet of remotely operated vehicle systems as the company drives forward with its ambitious growth strategy.

3. Aker Solutions Nets Umbilical Contract from Technip in Angola

Aker Solutions has been awarded a contract from Technip to deliver umbilicals for the Girassol Resources Initiative (GirRI) phase 2 development off the coast of Angola. Contract value is undisclosed.

4. Ulstein: Prize Winning Stinger Handling System to Improve Pipe-Laying (VIDEO)

ULSTEIN is currently customizing their innovative Chain type Stinger Handling system concept for three different companies on three different continents. The compact system improves both the vessel design and pipe-lay operations, and as acknowledgment on April 16th 2013, the equipment has won the bi-annual IRO Innovation Prize. The participants casted their votes for the 4 nominees, and Ulstein Idea Equipment Solutions came out as winner.

5. Dutch DCN to Invest in ROV Division

To fully complete its range of services, the management of Bergen op Zoom-based DCN Diving has officially launched its own ROV division, on 1 March 2013. As from that date, Fred Bosman (40) took up the position of ROV Operations Manager. Bosman acquired his experience with robotic underwater systems with the Royal Dutch Navy, and for the past 13 years has been employed as ROV supervisor in the offshore oil and gas industry.
