Atir floating tidal platform nears blades fitting

Spanish tidal energy developer Magallanes Renovables has revealed it will install the blades for its Atir floating tidal platform at the end of this September. The Atir platform has been anchored in Ria de Vigo estuary, located in the Spanish region of Galicia, for trials.

Laminaria scores €2M to further advance wave tech

Belgian wave energy company Laminaria has raised €2 million to support the development and full-scale demonstration of its wave energy generation technology at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Scotland. The deployment off Orkney Isles is planned for 2018 and will serve to prove the survivability of Laminaria’s device in extreme storm conditions.

CorPower and CPower top Ireland’s wave technology scan

Irish marine energy project developer Simply Blue Energy (SBE) has found CorPower Ocean, and Columbia Power Technologies as the most suitable companies for the development of future commercial wave energy projects. The review was part-financed by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).

AW-Energy teams up with Queen’s Uni for WaveRoller base

Finnish wave energy developer AW-Energy and Queen’s University Belfast are set to collaborate in developing a towable foundation for the WaveRoller device. The collaboration, expected to last for 6 months, involves performing tank tests on AW-Energy’s WaveRoller wave energy device and its re-deployable foundation with the aim of developing a more cost-effective solution.

OTE bets on Philippines’ OTEC potential

Ocean Thermal Energy Corporation (OTE) has unveiled plans to introduce ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) projects to the Philippines. OTE added the initiative is supported with two of its investors. The company’s plans align with those of the Philippine government which intends to add at least 20GW of renewable energy capacity to the country by 2040.
