DSME: The World’s Largest Vessel Floats (South Korea)

Maersk Line’s first Triple-E newbuild was launched from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Okpo Shipyard on 27 February 2013. The vessel, to be named Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller after the late shipping magnate, is the largest vessel of any type on the water today.

STX OSV to Adopt New Brand Name VARD

STX OSV Holdings Limited, one of the major global designers and shipbuilders of offshore and specialized vessels, announced today that the STX OSV Group of companies will adopt the new brand name VARD. The adoption of the new name, logo and brand identity follows the sale of STX Europe’s majority stake in the company to Fincantieri Oil & Gas, as previously announced on 23 January 2013.

The second of Fjord Line’s two new cruise ferries, MS Bergensfjord, was launched at Stocznia Gdansk on 1 March. The ship will now be towed to Bergen Group Fosen for interior fitting and finishing.

A fire leading to significant smoke formation broke out on a ship newbuilding Norwegian Getaway in the covered building dock II in Meyer Werft yesterday, March 5.

The Netherlands: Damen Presents New ASD Tug 2913 for Petersen & Alpers

Damen Shipyards Group is launching a new vessel type in its ASD Tug series. The ASD Tug 2913 has been designed primarily as a highly manoeuvrable, powerful tug, ideally suited for busy harbours where space is limited. Petersen & Alpers (Germany) is the launching customer for the new tug, which will be delivered end 2014.
