Trelleborg Launches Mini Guide to Foam Fenders

Trelleborg Marine Systems launches a ‘Mini Guide to Foam Fenders’, featuring a new ‘Fender Selector’ tool, along with case studies and a technical overview. The guide is aimed at raising awareness in the market of the viable alternative that foam can offer when specifying fender systems.

Foam fenders can offer potential cost savings, lower maintenance requirements and simpler installation when compared to rubber systems. However, Trelleborg has found that decision makers are often keen to stick with the status quo, and specify rubber fenders out of habit, rather than investigating the alternative solutions available.

Richard Hepworth, Managing Director of Trelleborg Marine Systems, says: “At Trelleborg, our background is very much polymer based, and of course, we’re committed to our business in that area. However, we place a lot of importance on ensuring bespoke systems are supplied to specifiers, which offer the best value and most effective solution to the specific challenges of their environment.

“That’s why we felt it was important to raise awareness of the viable alternative that foam can offer. Indeed, sometimes rubber fenders are not the right solution, and it’s key that specifiers know there’s a choice. Although many may be hesitant to try a different material, our foam fenders represent a quality, quickly installed solution. We’re keen that decision makers know there is a choice to make, before specifying rubber.”

Although rubber fenders remain the preferred solution for some applications, the durability and versatility of lightweight foam fenders make them a real contender in many project specifications where they might be overlooked. The ‘Mini Guide’ and ‘Fender Selector’ tool are intended to help decision makers select the right solution for their project.
