Troll module M13 leaves Aibel yard (VIDEO)

Norway’s Aibel is delivering three new modules to Statoil’s Troll A platform in order to expand the gas compression capacity.

The module M13, which contains auxiliary systems, is the final module to be delivered to the North Sea field, offshore Norway.

The company said that everything went as planned when the final Troll module which left the yard in Haugesund on July 31, 2014.

The 1,826 tonne heavy module is now to be installed on Statoil’s Troll A platform. For the employees at the yard, the sail away marked the end of their work with the Troll A 3&4 project, which has ensured high activity for the last couple of years.

“It’s always a bit sad when large construction projects ends, but at the same time it feels good to complete” says Construction Manager Harald Revheim.

Aibel has shared a video of the sail away from Aibel’s yard in Haugesund Thursday 31 July. The new compressors on Troll A will be powered from shore. On the platform, DC power from land must be converted back to AC, and this will take place on the M13.

The new compressors are necessary because of reservoir pressure decreases as the gas is extracted. They ensure that the Troll gas can be transported into the Kollsnes processing plant. The gas is then forwarded to the continent.
