Trump picks former Texas Governor as DoE secretary

The United States President-elect Donald Trump informed that it has selected the former Texas governor Rick Perry as secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy. 

Gov. Perry was the chief executive of one of the country’s largest states and one of the largest economies in the world, a statement by the President-elect reads.

During his tenure as Texas governor, Perry, “created a business climate that produced millions of new jobs and lower energy prices in his state, and he will bring that same approach to our entire country as Secretary of Energy,” Trump said.

He added that the administration intends on taking advantage of the U.S. natural resource deposits in order to make the country energy independent.

Perry, a veteran of the United States Air Force is the longest serving governor in Texas history, having led the state from 2000 to 2015.
