Tug Fire Kills Two at Bengbu Shenzhou Shipyard

Two shipyard workers were killed and one was injured after a tugboat under construction at China’s Bengbu Shenzhou Machinery (former Bengbu Shipyard) caught fire on June 11, according to local media.

The fire reportedly started in the tugboat’s cabin, killing one worker immediately, while the other two workers were rushed to hospital.

Unfortunately, the help came too late for one of the workers who died at the hospital. The third worker is reportedly in stable condition.

The authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident.

This is the second accident aboard tugboats built by Bengbu Shenzhou which resulted in fatalities this year.

Back in January, the Wan Shen Zhou 67 sank in the Yangtze River during its trial voyage, killing a total of 22 people.
