U.S. Congressman Boustany Supports Natural Gas Development

Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) issued a statement after news broke that the U.S. Department of Interior’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM) would release reworked rules for hydraulic fracturing on federal lands, followed by the Obama Administration’s likely announcement on approval of at least one new plant to export liquefied natural gas this week:

“I am pleased to hear recent reports indicating the Obama Administration may be willing to change its tone on hydraulic fracturing and natural gas production. For an Administration slow to recognize the economic potential of the energy sector, especially in South Louisiana, it is a shame these developments have taken so long to come around.

“Washington must do more to encourage investment in energy infrastructure it knows will pay huge dividends in job creation and economic activity. I support unleashing the potential of South Louisiana’s energy industry with friendlier policies toward hydraulic fracturing and increased natural gas production – policies the Administration is only now beginning to support. Although I welcome the Administration’s change of heart, I will continue to fight for ways to develop investment in energy infrastructure and to promote natural gas development leading to job creation here in South Louisiana.”
