UAE: Huge Success for Drydocks World’s Heat Management Programme

Drydocks World, the leading maritime service provider and one of the largest employers in the Middle East reported huge success to its Heat Management Programme that was implemented during the summer months. The programme is specially designed to maintain good health and well being of the employees during the summer season.

The Heat Management Programme which has been quite effective in achieving its objectives, not only in reducing the numbers but also the intensity.

The results reveal Zero Heat Stroke, Zero Heat Exhaustion and 77 minor Heat Effect cases which did not require hospital referrals or admission. The duration of the programme was from 1st June to 30th September 2012. As a result, the Company was able to record 10.5 million highly productive man hours unhindered by the summer heat, even as year 2012 had the hottest summer recorded in Dubai for the last 10 years. Externally auditable detailed records and statistics for the Heat Management Programme are maintained at the Drydocks World Medical Centre.

Drydocks World has a well-equipped Medical Centre with highly experienced personnel who are readily accessible. The Heat Management Programme is spear headed by the Occupational Health Team at the Medical Centre under the supervision of the company Chief Medical Officer. The team from the Centre took the lead along with other Departments in awareness training, toolbox talks, heat acclimatization, providing Oral Rehydration Salts, making cool water available to all and making Cool Rooms functional for employees and others who need rest.
