UAE: Quest Integrity Group Inspects Offshore Pipeline in Middle East

Quest Integrity Group , a leader in the delivery of advanced inspection and engineering assessment services and software products, announces the successful in-line inspection of an unpiggable offshore pipeline in the Middle East. Using its InVista™ ultrasonic in-line inspection tool, Quest Integrity inspected a 6” pipeline that is 2.5 km (1.5 miles) long and runs from an infield wellhead to the production platform.

The pipeline had previously been out of use, but was planned to be returned to service as part of a new drilling project. Quest Integrity mobilized quickly to inspect the line, providing a turn-key service that included staging and cleaning as well as the addition of temporary launcher and receiver traps in a very limited space. Only two cleaning runs were performed as the InVista in-line inspection tool captured 99.6% of the data in its first inspection run. The InVista smart pig provided accurate positions of external and internal corrosion as well as minor dents. In addition, a Level 2 Fitness-for-Service assessment was performed which enabled the operator to confidently return the asset to service with an understanding of Remaining Strength Factors and Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure pursuant to industry standards. This also provided detailed sizing information to enable the operator to monitor defect growth following future inspections.
