Uganda Government to Build Alternative Undersea Cable Route

Due to constant breakdowns of the internet cable in Kenya, the Uganda government is planning on building an alternative route for the undersea cable via Mutukula in Tanzania.

According to independent.co.ug, the Director for Technical Services at National Information Technology Authority Uganda (NITA-U) Peter Kahiigi stated that “Every time the fibre cables are damaged in Kenya we get affected, the Mutukula- Tanzania route will ensure that we have an alternative route to tackle this challenge”.

The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector will have most benefits from this route, since this is the sector most affected by the persistent breakdowns.
