UK: Dredger “Welsh Piper” Delivers Sand to Yelland Jetty

Dredger Welsh Piper Delivers Sand to Yelland Jetty

The sand dredger Welsh Piper returned to North Devon on Friday when it delivered cargo to Yelland Jetty.

Notts Contractors removed the sand into three lorries totalling some 1190 tonnes.

The ship sailed at 10:30 hours and took the last of the ebb downriver to sea. The sand was dredged from the location near Flatholm Island.

Her arrival has saved 50 to 80 lorry journeys, normally from Appledore to Yelland and return.

This excellent ship has a single screw and bowthruster and an efficient bucket and conveyor discharge system.
