Hamworthy to Supply Inert Gas Systems for LNG FSRU

Hamworthy has turned spotlight on its position as the world’s leading supplier of inert gas systems by securing contracts to install its technology on 21 LNG carriers under construction in South Korea.

The contracts have been secured with Norwegian owners Golar, AWILCO and Höegh LNG, and Greek owners MaranGas and Thenamaris.

Twelve Hamworthy Moss inert gas systems will be installed on a series of 156,000m3 capacity LNG carriers and 170,000m3 LNG floating storage and regasification units (FSRU’s) at Samsung Heavy Industries, seven inert gas systems will be installed on 160,000m3 capacity LNG carriers at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and two inert gas systems will be installed on 170,000m3 LNG FSRU’s at Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Each inert gas system, offering capacity of 14.500 Nm3/h-16.000 Nm3/h, will be delivered to the respective shipyards in 2012 and 2013.

“The upgraded system for the latest newbuildings is based on key experience from the Qatargas project,” says Morten Letnes, Marine Business Unit Director, Hamworthy Moss.

“High grade materials, in-house component manufacturing and unique two-stage fan solution ensures reliable running conditions. Upgrades on system regulation, component cooling and capacity tuning are based on years’ of experience from operating the system under extreme conditions.”
