UK: Offshore Survey 2013 Conference Programme Announced

Offshore Survey, which takes place from 10-11th April 2013 alongside Ocean Business at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton, has recently launched the conference programme which promises to be the most varied and exciting yet. ‘Offshore’ is rapidly becoming a far broader industry than just ‘oil and gas’ and the programme for Offshore Survey 2013 truly reflects this vibrant industry.

The offshore industry responded to an open call for papers this year; previous conferences accepted papers by invitation only. As a result, the Technical Committee was overwhelmed by the quantity and outstanding quality of abstracts submitted from all corners of the industry. From these many abstracts 20 papers were selected which demonstrated striking innovation and progress across the industry. These will be presented at the conference in five sessions: Hydrographic and Seabed Survey; Data Processing and Visualisation; Industry and Professional Issues; Subsea Positioning; and Survey Operation.

The Offshore Survey team is delighted that Rob Luijnenburg, Corporate Strategy & Communication Director at Fugro NV, will present the Keynote Speech which will discuss how the hydrography industry is keeping up with the ‘Facebook world’ of today. Following the theme of a rapidly developing offshore industry, he will address how technology could transform the industry both in terms of communication and data acquisition; demanding new business models and a new approach for the latest generation of technology-savvy graduates.

New conference Chairman, Ed Danson, commented “There is no doubt that the overall feeling for this year’s conference is one of optimism – with an innovative industry that is looking very much to the future, embracing new technologies and broadening horizons. I’m honoured to be chairing the conference and looking forward to meeting up with friends old and new”.

Organiser of Ocean Business, Versha Carter, urged visitors not to delay in registering for Offshore Survey saying “The conference is booking up quickly. With Offshore Survey running alongside the Ocean Business exhibition, there is a unique mix of technology, operations and business for all”.

Offshore Survey delegates will also benefit from the biggest Ocean Business event yet, with the show’s dockside hall tripled in size to include a buzzing dockside demonstration area and cafĂ©. As in previous years, the show will include a full three-day programme of hands-on training and demonstration workshops, enabling buyers to actually test drive equipment before purchasing.

Ocean Careers will also run over the three days to provide advice on career opportunities within the ocean technology, marine science and offshore industries. As always, the combined events bring a lively social programme, culminating in a gala dinner, held at Southampton’s Guildhall on Wednesday 10th April.
