UK: River Severn Tidal Barrage Could Face Delay

Plans to construct a tidal barrage across the River Severn could be delayed if the UK government doesn’t approve this project within next three years, reports BBC.

Prof Brian Morgan, a member of Hafren’s regional board, said any delays could risk it “going into the long grass”.

The company, Hafren Power, which is planning to develop this GBP 25 billion project is currently in negotiations with UK government ministers and environmental groups.

The plans envisage a 10-mile long tidal barrage across the Severn Estuary stretching from Cardiff to Weston-super-Mare, incorporating some 200 turbines, able to generate about 5% of the UK’s annual electricity requirements.
