UK: SAL to Install Weather Monitoring Stations in North Sea

Aberdeen based Wood Group Engineering (North Sea) Ltd has awarded a contract to Seaway Heavy Lifting Contracting Ltd for the transportation and installation of two weather monitoring stations for the East Anglia Offshore Wind zone, located in the Southern North Sea, East Anglia Field, UK.

The offshore weather monitoring stations comprise of conventional mono-piles (399t and 616t), grouted transition pieces (2 x 127t) and a lattice towers (2 x 43t), in different water depths (25.6 and 42.9m). These stations will be among the most technically advanced in the UK, as they will measure wind speed, wind direction in the area, temperature and air pressure. The East Anglia Offshore Wind project has the potential to deliver 7200MW of installed capacity, which is capable of generating enough clean green energy to power 5 million homes.

SHL will execute its work in Q2 of 2013.
