UK: Wind Towers Appoints New Managing Director

UK: Wind Towers Appoints New Managing Director

Dennis Breugelmans has been appointed Managing Director of Wind Towers (Scotland) Ltd, with effect from 1 January 2013.

Wind Towers (Scotland) Ltd is a Campbeltown based wind tower turbine manufacturing and assembly plant. It is one of only two companies in the UK producing wind towers and is currently the only one capable of making towers for offshore wind farms.

Breugelmans joins Wind Towers (Scotland) Ltd from SSE, where he had been Corporate Finance Manager for three years. During this time, he worked on both of SSE’s investments into the venture and became a Board member of Wind Towers in May 2011. Prior to joining SSE, Breugelmans spent seven years in corporate finance, advising clients across Europe and the US on mergers and acquisitions for ING Corporate Finance among others.

He said: “I am delighted to be joining Wind Towers. There is huge potential for growth as the UK establishes itself as a global leader in offshore wind. Our plant can manufacture and assemble any turbine in the world, and that makes us quite unique. We already employ around 140 local people in skilled jobs, and, if the sector fulfils its potential for growth in the coming years, we could see the creation of even more opportunities for local people and businesses.”

Jim McPhillimy, SSE’s Managing Director, Group Services, added: “A robust and sustainable supply chain offers significant value to renewable energy developers in Scotland. We recognise that SSE has an important role in helping create this and that is why we have entered into a range of strategic alliances and investments to secure this supply chain for Scotland.

“Wind Towers (Scotland) Ltd is an important link in that chain and both SSE and its partner, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, intend to work closely with Dennis and his team to make the venture a success.”

Margaret McSporran, senior development manager at HIE, said: “Congratulations to Dennis on his appointment. HIE looks forward to working with him and his highly skilled local team as they grow the business in 2013.”
