Ulstein Orders Hydroniq Coolers Kit for Nexans Aurora

Norwegian shipyard Ulstein Verft has contracted Hydroniq Coolers to deliver the seawater cooling system to the cable laying vessel (CLV) Nexans Aurora.

Under the contract, Aalesund-based Hydroniq Coolers will supply its Pleat seawater cooling system for the CLV Nexans Aurora.

The Pleat coolers will provide cooling of the vessel’s main engine and auxiliary systems through the use of seawater.

Hydroniq Coolers will manufacture and assemble the Pleat cooler at its headquarters in Aalesund and deliver it to Ulstein Verft in Ulsteinvik, Norway. The company has not disclosed the value of the contract.

CLV Nexans Aurora is a DP3 cable laying vessel that will be outfitted for power cable laying, including bundle laying, cable jointing and repair, and cable system protection and trenching.

Designed by Skipsteknisk, Nexans Aurora has a 31m long beam and can accommodate up to 90 persons. The 150m vessel also has a turntable with a cable capacity of 10,000 tonnes. The delivery is scheduled for 2021.

“This is an impressive cable layer which will support both energy interconnections worldwide, as well as offshore wind. We are proud to be chosen as supplier to CLV Nexans Aurora,” said Hans Robert Almestad, vice president of sales and marketing at Hydroniq Coolers.
