US LNG exports reach record high in December

US exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) produced from shale gas are continuing to rise and they have reached a new record in December.

A record 25 cargoes were exported from Cheniere’s Sabine Pass facility last month, the US Energy Information Administration said on Thursday citing a report by Bloomberg.

However, the ship-tracking data compiled by LNG World News shows that 24 cargoes left Sabine Pass in the month under review amounting to more than 84 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of LNG.

Either way, the number is higher as compared to 23 cargoes in November, that was the previous monthly record for Sabine Pass cargoes.

There are four 0.6-Bcfd liquefaction trains operating at Sabine Pass, currently the only such facility to ship US shale gas overseas, and a fifth is under construction and expected to enter service in mid-2019.

Another LNG export facility is soon expected to join Sabine Pass when Dominion Energy’s 0.7-bcfd Cove Point terminal in Maryland enters service.
