Congressman Southerland Tours JAXPORT1

JAXPORT CEO Brian Taylor and his leadership team yesterday hosted Rep. Steve Southerland of Florida’s Second Congressional District in the Panhandle and offered a first-hand look at the opportunities and challenges ahead for all of the state’s ports.

Rep. Southerland is a member of both the House Committee on Natural Resources and the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and serves as the Vice Chair of the House Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation. Rep. Southerland is committed to increasing benefits for private sector business in Florida, protecting the state’s coastline and maximizing the positive economic impact of the ports and transportation network.

“We are grateful that Rep. Southerland took the time to personally visit our terminals in order to make an up-close assessment of our operations, our plans and our needs,” said Taylor. “It is critical that the dialogue about investing in the future competitiveness of our ports continue at the highest levels of government. We appreciate Rep. Southerland’s dedication and hands-on approach to representing not only the citizens of his district but the citizens of the entire state and nation.”

JAXPORT is an economic engine for job creation and private sector opportunity in North Florida. The ripple effect from the port’s cargo and cruise business is substantial, supporting 65,000 jobs across the region and generating a total of $19 billion in annual economic impact.
