Indian River Inlet Beach Replenishment Moves Ahead

United States Senator Christopher Coons visited the Indian River Inlet this morning with Governor Markell for a briefing from the Army Corps of Engineers on its beach replenishment efforts.

The Governor joined DNREC Beach Nourishment Administrator Tony Pratt, Division of Watershed Stewardship Director Frank Piorko, Director of Parks and Recreation Chazz Salkin, Deputy District Engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Curt Heckelman, as well as members of the General Assembly and representatives from Delaware Department of Transportation for a tour of the beach nourishment/dredging work currently underway at the beach north of the Indian River Inlet (in Delaware Seashore State Park).

This project, which also aims to dredge 500,000 cubic yards of sand, began on July 23.
