USA: Oil States Industries Launch Enhanced FlexJoint(R) Riser Connector Technology

Oil States International, Inc. announced that its Oil States Industries subsidiary has launched its newly enhanced FlexJoint(R) riser connector technology. The innovative Gen II FlexJoint(R) riser design has been upgraded to extend service life at sustained high temperatures and under high-pressure operating conditions. It also offers a new reduced weight design with broader operating angles of up to approximately 20 degrees .

Oil States Industries’ breakthrough FlexJoint(R) technology was originally introduced to the offshore petroleum industry more than 30 years ago as a frictionless, maintenance-free alternative to the ball joint. It has since become the industry standard for a wide range of subsea applications where robust, flexible and durable connections are required between the surface and seabed. FlexJoint(R) technology is used for drilling and production risers, tension leg platforms, steel catenary risers, deepwater moorings and a growing range of deepwater applications.

“Our customers are operating in harsher and more demanding regions every day, and they need technology that will withstand those rigorous environments and provide for easier servicing,” says Cindy B. Taylor, Oil States International’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “Operators depend on FlexJoint’s flexible, frictionless and pressure-tight joints to accommodate extreme loading and motion dynamics. This new product line will ensure FlexJoint can go everywhere our customers do.”

After five years spent on development, the new Gen II FlexJoint(R) offers operating enhancements that include:

— Increased service life at constant high-pressure operation and high flow-line temperatures

— A more efficient, reduced weight design

— An increased operating angle range of up to approximately 20 degrees

— Higher operating pressures to 15,000 psi

The Gen II FlexJoint(R) design is patent pending in ten countries. Visitors to the 2011 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston can learn more about the Gen II FlexJoint(R) Product Line at Oil States Industries’ OTC Booth #3125 from May 2nd through May 5th, 2011.
