USA: Signal Bags Hercules Jack-Up Repair Job

Signal International has been awarded a contract for the repairs to the Hercules 185, which was damaged while working in Angola, West Africa, the company says on its website.

Signal sent a team to Port Gentil in Gabon,  West Africa to help Hercules Offshore with preparation of the rig to be dry towed from Port Gentil to Signal’s Pascagoula, Mississippi East Yard facility. The rig is expected to arrive in Pascagoula on November 29th.

Signal has begun fabricating a new spud can, as well as a new lower leg section for the rig. Signal will dock the rig on its Dual Carrier submersible dry dock and reinstall the new leg and spud can. The project is scheduled to take 90 days.

Once the repairs are complete, the Hercules 185 will return to West Africa to resume its drilling operations.

Dick Marler, President and CEO of Signal, stated “This is another example of how Signal has expanded into markets beyond the Gulf of Mexico to include West Africa, Brazil and Eastern Canada. This job coupled with other work in our backlog will increase our hiring needs at the Pascagoula yard. Over the next 30-40 days wewill be adding 200 – 300 personnel to our workforce. Behind this work Signal is bidding a number of other jobs and expects to sustain our overall manning in 2012 at around 700 employees.”
