USA Top Decommissioning Operators to Speak at GoM Summit

Experts from operators at the forefront of decommissioning in the Gulf of Mexico have been confirmed as keynote speakers at the largest decommissioning and abandonment gathering in the world taking place in Houston.

Win Thornton, vice president for decommissioning at BP, and Lew Dennis, Chevron’s Gulf of Mexico decommissioning manager, are among the experts scheduled to address DecomWorld’s 6th Annual Decommissioning & Abandonment Summit in March.

Industry veteran Win Thornton, a proponent of better forward planning and coordination, has said costs could be cut by up to 20% if operators coordinated their cessation of production (COP) schedules to make best use of decommissioning teams, while Lew Dennis has recently begun concluding Chevron’s massive hurricane subsea restoration program.

DecomWorld’s collaboration with top industry partners ensures that the 2014 meeting will cover the latest recovery techniques and provide delegates with in-depth market forecasts and expert-level perspectives to equip them for the challenges of GOM decommissioning.

Delegates will also have access to the methodology and findings of the new decommissioning study undertaken by Independent Project Analysis (IPA) on cost and schedule benchmarks and drivers of success for recently decommissioned projects.

More than 700 attendees and 60-plus exhibitors will be able to take part in interactive workshops with federal and state bodies, deepwater abandonment experts and more, and network with delegations from key D&A markets including West Africa, Southeast Asia and the North Sea.

The 6th Annual Decommissioning & Abandonment Summit takes place 10-12 March, 2014 in Houston.
