USA: Yakima Shoreline Plan Under Consideration

Yakima Shoreline Plan Under Consideration

A program to manage 1,700 acres of shoreline within Yakima’s city limits is open for comment through the Washington Department of Ecology.

Previously covered by a county-wide shoreline program, the city embarked on developing its own shoreline master plan in November 2012 and adopted a final plan in November 2013.

Once approved by Ecology, the city’s shoreline program will become part of the overall state shoreline master program.

The locally tailored shoreline program is designed to help minimize environmental damage to shoreline areas, reserve appropriate areas for water-oriented uses, and protect people’s access to public land and waters.

Comments will be accepted through May 29.
