USCG Medevacs Crewman from Bulker off Michigan

A 54-year-old man was medevaced from the bulk carrier Manitowoc off Michigan after experiencing severe abdominal pains, according to the US Coast Guard.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Detroit command center received a report on the crewmember’s condition from the 612-foot vessel on June 1.

A Coast Guard Air Station Detroit MH-65 Dolphine helicopter flight crew was sent to assist the vessel, which was some 15 miles off Harbor Beach.

The man was transported to Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe, Michigan in good condition, the USCG informed.

The US-flagged bulker was on its way to Sault Ste. Marie, Canada at the time.
