Van Oord Picks Tekmar CPS for Windpark Fryslân

Van Oord has selected Tekmar Energy’s Cable Protection System (CPS) TekLink® Mechanical Latch for the Windpark Fryslân nearshore wind farm in the Netherlands.

The 382.7MW Windpark Fryslân comprises 89 Siemens Gamesa 4.3MW wind turbines to be installed in the IJsselmeer some six kilometers off the Frisian coast.

Tekmar Energy is providing 167 cable protection systems for the infield array cables, providing full protection from topside hang-offs through to burial into the seabed.

Russell Edmondson, Managing Director of Tekmar Energy said: “We are delighted that Tekmar has been selected for Windpark Fryslân. This continues our trusted relationship with Van Oord and furthers our position as the world market leader in offshore wind cable protection systems.”

The CPSs will be produced in Tekmar Energy’s manufacturing facility in the North East of England.

Windpark Fryslân is being built by Zuiderzeewind, a consortium of Van Oord and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy.

The first wind turbines of the wind farm are expected to provide power in 2020 and the wind farm will be fully operational in 2021.

Ventolines is responsible for the project management of Windpark Fryslân during construction and operations.
