VIDEO: BG Group’s road to first QCLNG cargo

Since 2010 BG Group’s QCLNG project passed several stages up to the recent event of loading the first liquefied natural gas cargo.

The US$20.4 billion project on Curtis Island near Gladstone is the first facility to produce LNG from coals seam gas.

The $20.4 billion project has reached the completion following extensive operations that saw the extension of QGC’s, a BG Group unit, existing natural gas production in the Surat Basin of southern Queensland. A 540km buried natural gas pipeline network linking the gas fields to Gladstone has also been constructed together with the 8.5 mtpa natural gas liquefaction plant all leading to the first LNG cargo currently being loaded onboard the BG-chartered LNG carrier, the 145,000 cbm Methane Rita Andrea.
