Video: Birth of the Greenest Mega-Boxship

Business & Finance

United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has recently published a time-lapse video of the construction of what the company calls ”the world’s greenest ultra-large container vessel” – the 18,800 TEU, LNG-ready MV Barzan.

The MV Barzan was recently named at a ceremony held at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries’ Mokpo Shopyard.

The DNV GL classed vessel will be the largest in UASC’s fleet to date and will set new standards for fuel and energy efficiency, due to optimized vessel design and an array of propulsion and equipment efficiency technologies, the shipping company said.

The vessel is said to have a CO2 output per TEU that is more than 60% below than that of 13,500 TEU vessels delivered just three years ago.
