VIDEO: Chevron nears export of first Gorgon LNG cargo

The 15.6 mtpa Gorgon LNG project, operated by Chevron, is expected to ship its first cargo of chilled gas soon.

Chevron’s CEO John Watson said last week that the San Ramon, California-based energy giant expects to be producing LNG from the giant project in Australia within the next few weeks.

Chevron recently commenced the cool-down of the LNG storage and loading facilities at the project on Barrow Island in Western Australia.

The project entered final stages of commissioning systems before the start-up of Train 1 as the Chevron-operated, Asia Excellence LNG carrier delivered the commissioning cargo early January.

The Gorgon project is a joint venture between the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (47.3 percent), ExxonMobil (25 percent), Shell (25 percent), Osaka Gas (1.25 percent), Tokyo Gas (1 percent) and Chubu Electric Power (0.417 percent).
