Ferus Smit Splashes MV Alice

On Saturday, May 4 dry cargo ship hull number NB 415, MV Alice, was launched at the Ferus Smit Shipyard in Westerbroek, the Netherlands.

Swedish shipping company Erik Thun AB is the owner of the vessel.

MV Alice was named after Alice Källsson, wife of Helge Källsson who founded the shipping company 75 years ago.

Thanks to a newly designed hull form, the vessel has a load capacity of 5,110 tons and she is also equipped with a system for ballast water treatment. In addition, she is outfitted with a water-lubricated propeller shaft, to prevent oil leakage.

The hull shape is specially designed to reduce fuel consumption, which is confirmed by various sea trials that indicate that she uses 19 percent less fuel than her sister ships.
