VIDEO: Rough landing for CHC helicopter offshore Brazil

A video has emerged over the weekend showing a CHC helicopter if not crashing, then experiencing a rough landing aboard a helideck of the Sevan Brasil drilling rig.

Offshore Energy Today reached out to CHC, seeking confirmation and more info.

This is what CHC said in an email:

“We can confirm that on April 15, 2017 at 16:35 local time, an S92 (PR-CHR) experienced an emergency landing on the helideck of offshore platform SS86 in Brazil. The crew responded immediately in accordance with their training and successfully landed the aircraft. There were no reported injuries among the passengers or the crew.

The Regional Accident Investigation and Prevention Services (Juris SERIPA), the Centre of Investigation, Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (CENIPA), and the National Civil Aviation Agency Brazil (ANAC) have been notified. SERIPA will carry out the primary investigation with the full support of CHC Brazil.”

Sevan Drilling, the owner of the rig, is a subsidiary of Seadrill. In a telephone conversation with Offshore Energy Today, a Seadrill spokesperson described the extent of the damage to both the helicopter and the rig as “minor.”

The spokesperson said no personnel on the rig or on the aircraft were injured. Operations are now underway to remove the aircraft from the rig, the spokesperson added.

In a subsequent email, CHC also said:”Plans are currently in-hand to recover the aircraft to shore where it will undergo a full assessment. The owner of the platform will also be assessing what work is required to repair any damage on the platform.”
