VIDEO: Thorco’s Tenth Newbuilding Makes a Splash

The tenth newbuilding of the Copenhagen-based shipping company Thorco Shipping hit the water on February 9 in Japan.

The new vessel, named Thorco Lohas, was built and launched by the Japanese shipbuilding company Honda Heavy Industries.

Thorco Lohas, the final general cargo vessel of the L-class built for the company, has a length of about 131 meters and a width of 23 meters.

According to the Danish shipowner, Thorco Lohas features technologies aimed at reducing CO2 emissions and optimizing fuel efficiency and performance.

Thorco Shipping recently bought five tweendeckers in an effort to replace some of the older tonnage in its fleet. The five vessels, from 2010, 2011 and 2012, respectively, all in the 15,000 – 20,000 DWAT range, form the new Thorco R-class.
