Vietnam - DQS Hands Over Newbuild Crude Oil Tanker to PVTrans

After completion building the vessel, on 3rd June 2012, Dung Quat Shipyard (DQS) together with ship Owner PVTrans organized inauguration and delivery the 104,000 DWT Crude Oil Tanker ceremony.

Attending the ceremony are Mr. Nguyen Hoa Binh – Member of Central Committee – Director of the Institute Supreme People’s Procuracy, Nguyen Van Cong – Deputy Minister of Transportation, Mr Le Duong Quang – Deputy Minister of trade and Industry. For Quang Ngai province, there are Mr. Vo Van Thuong – Member of Central Committee – Party Secretary of Quang Ngai Province, Mr. Cao Khoa – Chairman of Quang Ngai province. Regarding leaders of the Group, there are Mr. Phung Dinh Thuc, chairman of Petrovietnam, Vu Quang Nam – Group Deputy General Director.

The 104.000 DWT crude oil tanker is 245m long, 43m wide, 20m high, draft of 11.7 m, speed of 14,7 nautical miles/hour. This vessel specializes in crude oil transportation with largest tonnage ship built in Vietnam. Main engine – the heart of The 104.000 DWT crude oil tanker manufactured by Doosan Man B & W Company with capacity of 13,560 KW including 6 cylinder, rotational speed of 105 round/min, weight of about 400 tons, 9 meters long, 4.5 wide, 8m high.

Dung Quat Shipyard (DQS) was established in 02/2006. After establishment, DQS has been assigned to build The 104.000 DWT crude oil tanker. On 07 May 2007, the first standard segment of the vessel was officially laid in dry dock No. 01 in the joy and confidence on the path of development of company.

On 01/07/2010, DQS is transferred from Vinashin Group to Petrovietnam. Then, DQS has been stabilizing organization, strengthen the management system. Specially focusing on completing The 104.000 DWT crude oil tanker. During building the vessel, DQS meet many difficulties. The vessel was designed to the technology of Poland, most of equipments are lack of documentation, some rules and standards applied in the design was outdated to compare with the current international maritime standards. Therefore, in the completion building process, DQS engineer have spent much time researching, constantly updating and adjustment the drawings and equipment.

On 6th November 2011, Dung Quat Shipyard (DQS) held a successful launching the 104,000 DWT crude oil tanker and the vessel is officially named PVT MERCURY.

The building 104,000 DWT has always received the attention and close direction of Group leaders. Chairman of board of Directors, Group CEO are regularly present at DQS to have meeting with ship owner, registry to solve difficulties. Hundreds of meetings between parties to discuss plans for building.

After completion building the vessel,, The 104,000 DWT sea trial vessel is under the supervision, monitoring, inspection of DQS, ship owner, ABS Registy. All specifications of MERCURY PVT vessel have been tested with more than 20 items. During sea trial, all the items meet technical requirements as main engine system, generators, air navigation facilities, electrical systems, steering system, control room, signal system, ballast pump …

At the ceremony, Mr. Phung Dinh Thuc – Chairman of board of Directors congratulated all DQS employees overcoming challenges to complete building the vessel. He said: “The success of The 104.000 DWT crude oil tanker projects following the completion of building the 90m jackup marks of maturity, rapid development of Petrovietnam workers. To meet the strategic objectives of the Group is building and repair of drilling rigs, floating facilities, serving for transporting oil and gas, reducing the proportion of imports, comply with the policy of the Politburo that Vietnamese consume Vietnam goods

The success of building 104,000 DWT confirms the correct direction Petrovietnam and the efforts of all DQS employees, marking the development of shipbuilding industry in Vietnam in the process of industrialization and modernization. Comply with the policy of the Government on the development program of restructuring the shipbuilding industry, strategy of Vietnam maritime transportation development. In the future, the Dung Quat Shipyard constantly improve the profession capacity of workers to meet the need of development of Vietnam marine strategy.
