Vizag: Upgraded Port Area Ready for Operations (India)

Ajeya Kallam, the Visakhapatnam Port Chairman, said that the upgraded coal berth in the outer harbour is ready for commissioning anytime now.

It is a major project which will not only substantially increase the capacity of the port but also reduce pollution to the minimum as well. Three ship unloaders have been installed as part of the project and the unloading capacity will be 70,000 tonnes a day,” he stated.

According to thehindubusinessline.com, the dredging of the five berths in the inner harbour had been finished and two new 50-tonne tugs were delivered from the Hindustan Shipyard Ltd recently.

Port of Visakhapatnam is one of the India’s leading major ports, located on the east coast of the state.

The Port has three harbours; outer harbour, inner harbour and the fishing harbour.

The inner harbour is capable of accommodating vessels up to 230 meters LOA and draft up to 11 meters.
