Volstad’s Newbuild Named

More than 2000 people turned up when Volstad Maritime and Kleven invited the local community on board Grand Canyon II this weekend.

The vessel’s Godmother, Mary-Lou Meixner, broke the champagne bottle, at first attempt, wishing vessel and crew a safe journey.

Grand Canyon II is the first of two sister vessels Klevens yard in Gursken, Myklebust Verft, are delivering to Ålesund-based ship owner Volstad. Both vessels are designed by Ålesund based design company Skipsteknisk.

The vessels are 126 m long, and with accommodation for 104 persons. In addition to the vessel’s 250 t crane for subsea installation work, the vessel also has a swimming pool, libraries, saunas, gym and a cinema with 50 seats, ensuring a pleasant stay on board.

Myklebust Verft is celebrating its 100 year anniversary this year. In addition to the two construction vessels for Volstad, the yard also has a seismic vessel for GC Rieber under construction. Up to 1000 people have been working at Myklebust Verft this spring.
