Vopak Plans Southeast Asia LNG Terminal

Vopak is is planning on building an LNG terminal in Southeast Asia, the company’s Chief Executive Eelco Hoekstra said.

This move by Vopak could spur competition among countries such as Singapore and Malaysia that are trying to establish their position as LNG hubs, Reuters informs.

Hoekstra also noted that Vopak is interested in locations with relatively large and liberal gas market and shipping routes, and Southeast Asia is an obvious location since it finds itself on the main shipping route between Europe and Asia.

Vopak and its partner Dialog are doing a feasibility study for an LNG terminal in Pengerang, but a possible storage facility is not yet in the plans.
