Finnish technology group Wärtsilä has been contracted to deliver 16 engines for four new LNG carrier vessels being built at the Hudong Zhonghua shipyard in China.

The order was secured in August 2017 through a joint venture company CSSC Wärtsilä Engine (Shanghai), Wärtsilä said on Wednesday.

Each of the four vessels with a capacity to transport 174,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas will be fitted with four Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel generating sets running primarily on LNG fuel to provide the ships with auxiliary power.

Delivery of the engines with a total power output of 56 MW will commence in the second half of 2018. The vessels are scheduled to be delivered commencing in 2019, Wärtsilä said.
