Wasco Orders Iron Ore for Nord Stream 2 Pipe Coating

Wasco Coatings Europe, the coating and logistics contractor of Nord Stream 2, has ordered 1.3 million tonnes of iron ore from Swedish LKAB Minerals.

The iron ore will be used for the concrete coating of the steel pipes needed to build the planned Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

A heavy high-density concrete coating will be applied to each of the approximately 200,000 pipes to add weight, so that they remain in place on the seabed.

LKAB Minerals, Karlshamn Hamn and MMT Sweden are among the Sweden-based companies that have been directly or indirectly awarded orders from Nord Stream 2.

The combined order value of these contracts to date exceed one billion Swedish kronor (100 million euros).

Nord Stream 2 is an export gas pipeline running from Russia to Europe across the Baltic Sea.

The decision to build Nord Steam 2 is based on the successful experience in building and operating the Nord Stream gas pipeline.

The total capacity of two strings of Nord Stream 2 is 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The aggregated design capacity of Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 is therefore 110 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
