Wave and tidal most popular RE resource, UK bosses say

 
Institute of Directors (IoD) poll which surveyed nearly 1,000 business leaders found they strongly support the deployment of renewable energy technologies in UK, with wave and tidal receiving highest level of support of 88%.

The survey conducted between May 11-26, 2016, with 998 members of the IoD participating, found high levels of support for increasing the renewable energy capacity in the UK.

Wave and tidal technologies received the highest level of support at 88%, followed by solar with 87%, offshore wind 79%, biomass 68%, and onshore wind with 56%.

Dan Lewis, Senior Infrastructure Policy Adviser at the IoD, said: “Renewables are a significant, and growing, source of energy. The UK has the world’s highest offshore wind capacity, with much more expected. But technology based on the weather doesn’t work all of the time, so the UK needs a mix of renewables, nuclear and the cleanest hydrocarbons.”

Over half of IoD members backed fracking of shale rock for oil and gas. When it comes to building nuclear power plants, a narrow majority of 53% think Hinkley Point C makes strategic sense, but less than half think it will make the UK more economically competitive.

IoD is UK’s membership organisation that represents senior level professionals.
